Make sure you check the schedule and make an appointment to see a doctor before you leave for Penang.

 

The intended doctor may be on leave, may have a surgery schedule, or fully booked so if you don't make an appointment before leaving, you might be asked to come another day.

 

Here's how to check a doctor's schedule and make an appointment to see a doctor:

 

1. Provide us with the estimated date you want to seek treatment.

2. We will confirm the availability of the doctor.

3. If the doctor is available, make an appointment immediately by sending us a photo of your passport. If the doctor is not available, we will give information on when the doctor is available soonest.

4. After the appointment is confirmed, we will send you proof of confirmation.

2. Booking Airport Pickups

 

All hospitals in Penang provide transportation from the airport to the hospital / hotel. Here are the conditions:

 

• 1 patient and a maximum of 1 companion

• Pickups are only on weekdays, Monday - Friday (9am - 4pm) and Saturday (9am - 12pm)

 

This airport shuttle facility is free but you must book at least 3 days before departure. Please let us know so that we can arrange the airport pick-up for you.

 

Note:

 

• If you arrive in Penang outside of workdays, you can take a Grab car, it costs around RM 20 - 30.

• If you take a taxi, it costs around RM 50 - 60.

3. Booking a hotel near the hospital

 

Now is the time for you to book a hotel to stay in during your treatment. You can book a hotel through us or through the Traveloka application, Tiket.com or others.

 

Here are the hotels we recommend:

 

Hotels near Island Hospital

 

• YMCA - This is a budget hotel, the location is directly opposite the hospital but a bit far from the city centre / culinary spots.

• Travelodge Georgetown - Distance from hospital 1.3 km but located in the city centre, near culinary spots.

• Mei Hotel Penang - Distance from hospital 1.6 km but located in the city centre, near culinary spots.

 

Hotels near Gleneagles Penang

 

• Mei Hotel Penang - Distance from hospital is 1.6 km but located in the city centre, near culinary spots.

• Vouk Suite Hotel - Right next to the hospital but a bit far from the city centre / culinary spots.

 

Hotels near Loh Guan Lye

 

• Grand Inn - Budget hotel, location opposite the hospital but a bit far from the city centre / culinary spots.

• One Pacific Hotel - Exactly opposite the hospital but a bit far from city centre / culinary spots.

• Mei Hotel Penang - Distance from the hospital is 1 km but within the city centre, near the culinary spots.

 

 

4. Booking Flight Tickets

 

Finally, you just need to book a flight ticket to Penang. Here are some airlines that have direct flights (without transit to Penang):

 

• From Medan: Lion Air, Air Asia, Sriwijaya Air

• From Jakarta: Air Asia, Citilink and Batik Air (May 2019)

• From Surabaya: Air Asia

• From Aceh: Firefly

 

From other areas, it is usually necessary to transit in Medan, Jakarta or Surabaya.

 

Our advice is to:

 

• Ensure the validity period of your passport is more than 6 months before buying a ticket.

• Buy a one-way flight ticket in advance because you never know the possibility of extending the duration of your medical treatment.

• Do not buy airline tickets or book a hotel in advance until doctor's appointment confirmation by us.
